Practical, educational and fun, schools, pre-school, sports organisations can experience the vast varieties of Australian grown fresh produce.
By exposing many varieties of Australian fruit and vegetables, young people learn that their choice of healthy snacks is extensive. Young people can learn that snacking on wholesome, healthy foods can be just as enjoyable, if not better, than snacking on junk food.

The program is able to provide one or more pieces of fruit to each primary school child every school day in every school which has joined up with Kids & Fruit.
The fruit is first grade quality and a size suitable for young children. The fruit is dispatched straight from the orchards with a minimum of handling and delivered from the freshest source available.

The variety of fruit changes every week, however this can sometimes be restricted by the forces of nature (eg. hail, drought and frost) and the seasons. For example, during the warmer months there is an abundance of fruit available compared to the colder months. Kids & Fruit also includes exotic fruits (eg. cherries and strawberries) as well as new varieties not readily available at retail outlets (eg. a Pluot which is a cross between an apricot and plum).

Schools have the choice of receiving 3 or 5 varieties of fruit per week. The fruit is dispatched to each school to an agreed location (eg. main school office). The fruit is packed into classroom configurations. Each fruit bag states the quantity inside and which class (eg. Prep 1/2) the bag is for.
All the school is required to do each day of the program is to arrange for a student from each classroom (eg. Fruit Captain) to collect the fruit, who then distributes it to his/her peers.

Many schools have noticed a change in snacking preferences as students get to acquire a preference for snacking on fruit with their peers which in turn changes their perception of fruit, from ‘daggy’ to ‘cool’.
